Luca di Castri, born in Florence in 1972, began studying graphic art and photography at the Art Institute, Florence; then he moved to Bologna where he studied theater and cinema at D.A.M.S. He worked in theaters either preparing sets and costumes or as an actor. In 2003, he obtained a grant from the Leonardo European Artistic Scholarship Project and spent three months in Crete.
He started showing his works in solo and collective exhibitions in the mid-nineties and took part in art competitions where his works were greatly appreciated by critics and the public (the Cromica competition, Bibbiena, Arezzo, 2012, second prize; the Caran d’Ache contest, Florence, 2011, first prize; the Centenary of the Futurist Manifest Award, Gran Caffe’ Letterario Giubbe Rosse, Florence, 2010, second prize; Premio Italia, Eco d’Arte Moderna, Florence, 2009, poster prize; the Small Format International Competition, La Pergola Arte Gallery, Florence, 2008).
His first solo exhibition ‘La fabbrica delle nuvole’ (the factory of clouds) at the antiquarian Library Focardi, Florence, took place in 1997. Among the others that followed over the years, the most important were "Cosmopoli", 2002, with a catalogue edited by E. Mazzini, Villa Bandini, Florence, under the patronage of the Municipality of Florence; "Limine", in 2007, Spazio Art-Art, Impruneta (Florence); in 2008, Villa Magnaguti, Cerlongo di Goito, Mantova; in 2011, "Notturni", Studio Ardesia, Florence; in 2012, "Viaggio Blu", Galleria Studio d'arte 102, Alessandria; in 2013, "Apparenze", Fiesole, with a catalogue edited by G. Faccenda; in 2015, "Apparenze#3" in Milan, "Apparences" in Strasbourg (France) and "Apparenze#5" in Arezzo.
Among the most important exhibitions, were in 1995 "Artists on the wall!" in the Ex-Stazione Leopolda, Florence; in 2003, "Innesti Doc 2003" as a part of Tuscia Electa, Panzano in Chianti, Florence; in 2009, "Symbolica", Studio E. Riotto, Pietrasanta, Lucca; in 2010, "Nuovo Umanesimo" Galleria Logos, Roma; in 2011, "Teleporto, Art off the air", in Ancona, Aula del mare; in 2012, "Viaggio nel contemporaneo", Saragiolo, Siena; in 2013, "Nuove Conexion", La Plata, Argentina; in 2014 "Manufaktura Satyry" in Zyrardow, Poland.
In 2010, the museum of modern and contemporary art Thelesiamuseum in San Roberto, Reggio Calabria, acquired the painting "Bull in Aspromonte"; in 2011, Di Castri made three large paintings for the historical Literary Cafe Le Giubbe Rosse, Florence. In 2012, he was invited to the "Innovative Tradition Art & Design – Whirlpool exhibition", Fuori Salone, Milan.
