Born in the groove of La Specola’s history, the oldest science museum in Europe and the Imperial and Royal Museum of Physics and Natural History of Florence established in 1775, the reproductions of animal skulls by Fabio Anfossi draw from the remote past of the museum that “ speculate “ not only from the ancient zoological and biological weaves of its historical archives, but also from that “Enlightenment” experience and spirit which has been its trademark since the beginning.
The history of its collection is inextricably linked to its great cultural spokesman, represented by the entire group of researchers and scientists who co-participated, through the centuries to the present day, to turn the Museum and its collections into the myth which nowadays stands for the whole world.
The scientific and cultural heritage and the artistic code represented by this collection, aims to redeem part of this historical heritage through a modern and detailed reinterpretation of some of its relics.
